Ecclesiastical Estates

Apart from the manors within the parish of Bubwith, other property was held ecclesiastically. The Rectory of Bubwith, held by the Dean and Chapter of York, is dealt with separately, but the Dean and Chapter held another property in the parish, as did the Vicars Choral of York.

Dean and Chapter of York
The Dean and Chapter held a second property in Bubwith (other than the Rectory):- a messuage with a barn, kiln, beast house and 3 oxgangs of land, with a cottage with a barn and garden, that was mainly tenanted by the Chaplin family.

The registers from W/f - W/p (1702-1894) have been entered into the A2A database and the entries are also given below. Curiously, despite entries in registers W/e (1640-1702) and W/j - W/p (1767-1894), there are no Bubwith entries in registers W/f - W/h (1702-1747).

Chapter Act Book, 1728-1890
The Chapter Act Books contain very brief notes on each Act performed by the Dean and Chapter in their Registry, for such things as entries in their register of deeds, ordinations of vicarages, bonds, records of visitations, etc. For each lease in the Registers of Leases there should be a corresponding entry in the Chapter Act Books, and vice-versa. This is not always the case however, and fortunately the Act Book does provides notes on leases that were not entered in the lease registers for Bubwith, and these have been marked with an asterisk *.
